News and updates

The last task of the competition is now over - prize-giving will be tomorrow (Sunday 6th) at 14:00.

05.05.18 This morning we have Task 8 - Economy and Distance - pilots have a measured amount of fuel and have to land with a minimum of 0.5 litres remaining (otherwise they are judged as 'landed out'). The briefing is happening now (10:30) and more details will be along soon.

Live tracking will be running on this task - available at www.fastretrieve.com/WPC or https://lt.flymaster.net/bs.php?grp=2234

04.05.18 Task 7 is an economy/efficiency task - pilots are challenged to fly the route but MUST land with at least 0.5 litres of fuel still in the tank. We will live track this task and you may watch the live tracking at www.fastretrieve.com/WPC or https://lt.flymaster.net/bs.php?grp=2234

This is the route :-

Live Tracking is available for this task - you can see it at www.fastretrieve.com/WPC

03.05.18 A storm has developed this afternoon and we have thunder, lightning and heavy rain in the area - the rest of the day is cancelled and we will try for the economy task in the morning.

03.05.18 This morning is another precision task - this ia a 'clover leaf' task - there are four buoys in the lake with sticks on them (in a square) and a centre stick - pilots have to start by kicking the centre stick then fly round all four buoys - kicking the stick on each - then kick the centre stick again - fastest time wins . This afternoon will have a fuel economy task which we will Live Track. The pilots are obliged to land with a minimum of 0.5 litres of fuel remaining (we do not want pilots running out of fuel in the air) - any less will result in a 'landed out' result. Live Tracking details and the task map will be published as soon as the task has been confirmed.

02.05.18 This afternoon saw a precision task - pilots had to arrive on an approach, kick a slalom pole and then completely land (ie trailing edge on the ground) then relaunch and kick a second stick on the way out. Scores are based on the time taken which, for some, was in the 20-30 second range. Time limit was 3 mins and, if the wing landed badly, this saw a number of pilots leaving on foot.

02.05.18 Task 4 started at 07:30 and was a pure navigation task - 6 turnpoints were set in sequence (so it was a 'route') - this is how it looked :-

1 pilot landed out but everyone else completed the task.

01.05.18 First competition day - task 3 (1 & 2 were practice tasks) - the task is a free navigation task - there are 32 waypoints (or gates) with a radius of 200m. The object of the task is to take as many as possible in the limited 45 mins allowed. The task looks like this (but remember they can take any waypoint in any order and even retake points - start and goal are the only mandatory points)

30.04.18 For the first time ever in CIMA history we have elected to try 'Live Tracking' in this event - this allows live viewing of a task and, more importantly, live scoring meaning there is no longer any need to download a logger after flying - the track is already there. The solution we have chosen is the Flymaster 'Tracker' - these units offer a 1 second track, have no display (which is perfect for our sport) and have a 30 hour battery life (so, if someone lands way out, we can track every movement). These have been rented from FlyEvent.

Tasks where the pilots have to depart from the local field (ie pure navigation, fuel efficiency etc) will be tracked - local tasks in the field (ie balls, slalom, precision etc) will not.

Links will be posted here as soon as a task is set (in general there are 2 - you may view live tracking at www.fastretrieve.com/WPC or https://lt.flymaster.net/bs.php?grp=2234 - both have different features, feel free to look around)
